Trail Overview

This trail leads to the Kremmling Cretaceous Ammonite Locality, also known as the Cretaceous Ammonite Recreation Site, home to one of the world's largest known concentrations of ammonite fossils. The fossil beds are protected, but the trail provides access to Fossil Ridge, where visitors can hike and learn about the area's remarkable geologic history. Along the way, you'll also enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding ridges, rolling hills, and distant mountain peaks.

History

This trail leads to the Cretaceous Ammonite Recreation Site Trailhead, officially known as the Kremmling Cretaceous Ammonite Locality, or Fossil Ridge. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, this protected paleontological site contains the highest known concentration of giant ammonite fossils in the world.
