Trail Overview

Most of this trail will follow a high ridge with amazing views. Start on the east end for the best camping and easy access to the trail. Unlicensed vehicles are permitted, and this is a popular spot for them as well. There are some good challenging spots to the north towards the end of the trail. If you start on the west end, you can also get to Peirson Park Road. Open June 15 to November 30.

Difficulty

Difficult. This rating applies to just a few steep, rocky sections on the east end that are borderline difficult. Aggressive stock SUVs with high ground clearance and an experienced driver should be able to manage this section with careful tire placement. If you are not sure, we recommend you start on the west end, where a lower clearance SUV can reach the scenic camp spots before the steep downhill.

Johnny Park was recently graded all the way through to accommodate the local side-by-side companies. Feels like driving any dirt road, with normal pickups and Subarus on it.

Super cool trail. Would be great if not for all the rental UTVs buzzing up and down the trail constantly. I went on a Wednesday before noon and saw at least 6-7 while I was there. There’s an outfit renting them out right at the trail head and it really makes it a pain for anyone in a 4x4. Great views and cool area. Just rough enough to make it interesting.

Did this trail super easily in a rental Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on 37" tires. There were some moderate rock areas. I saw other lifted 4runners and stock Jeeps, and no one was having any problems. I think this one would doable but a bit stressful in a stock 4runner and not recommended at all in a stock Subaru.

It’s completely graded now and we had 2 people in stock Subaru Outbacks that did the whole thing without a challenge. It’s super easy but dusty. We went up to camp at parachute hill which the stock Subaru Outbacks did as well. Super easy trail 1/10 for difficulty but great views and camp/day spots.

Trail was dry and dusty. Was able to do it in a long bed crew cab ram 1500 with stock suspension and 33 inch tires. There are bypasses for all of the more difficult obstacles.

Trail is open in all directions, looks like they graded the trail. There are still a few rock gardens to play and climb there are bypasses. Otherwise flat and dusty now.

Started on Button Rock rd which gave an extra section or two of fun rocks before “starting” the trail. In this direction the first half was the most challenging but made it fine with 37s and no lockers. The first is fine and kicked up a lot of dust but a fun trail. Could have made it more difficult if I wanted to with other lines.

Solid 4, most obstacles can be passed, but the hard lines are definitely more fun! Great mix of obstacles and chill dirt roads. Road work being done on the west side but not blocked
