Trail Overview

Other than rafting down the Green river, this road is the only access down to Echo Park campground. The dirt starts from Harpers Corner Road and immediately follows a moderately steep grade requiring 4WD or AWD and some clearance. The road takes you across 2-3 small creek crossings, petroglyphs, an old homestead before dropping down to the canyon floor and where you can check out Steamboat Rock and the campground.

Difficulty

The switchbacks start right after you leave pavement and are a moderate grade one-lane route that would be impassible when wet or covered in snow.

Beautiful trail, easy in any AWD/4WD but very bumpy washboards on fairly steep climb at the start. Did 98% of it in 2H

Very dry, moderately dusty. Only challenging feature was a mixture of loose gravel and washboard on steep descent into the canyon - might be unpleasant in FWD vehicles coming back out. Otherwise just a nice dirt/gravel road.
