Trail Overview

The Dolores Triangle is a scenic high desert dirt/jeep trail in Eastern Utah, ranging in elevation from 4,500 feet to 6,500 feet. It features rugged landscapes with pinion and juniper trees, granite rocks, red sandstone bluffs, and red sand washes. This area is rarely traveled because of its location. The Triangle is bordered by the Dolores River, Wilderness Areas, and rugged canyons. The only easy access is by entering through the Colorado side, traveling through the Colorado National Monument and Glade Park ranch country. It's well worth the drive.

Started at end of DS road and went counter clockwise. Ran it our JLU Rubicon. Trail was in very good condition. Hot but scenic too. Southern end of trail had been recently bladed. Lot of sharp shale to watch out for. This trail can been done with a higher clearance SUV. We also did Ryan Creek in the middle from east to west which is mostly down hill. Eastern side has a lot of exposed decomposed granite and wash outs. I would not recommend the average SUV trying Ryan Creek.

We entered Utah from the North at Colorado DS Rd, traveled South, and exited Utah back into Colorado at BLM 800. That Eastern portion of the Dolores Triangle was 2/10. We did it as part of the Glade Park to Gateway run, which is 6/10 in Colorado.
