Trail Overview

This trail begins at the entrance to Double RL ranch, which is owned by Ralph Lauren. It is a great option if many of the passes are closed in the area, since the road stays at a relatively low elevation. There is an overlook that reveals a gorgeous, mostly hidden canyon. Keep a safe distance, as the canyon is deep and steep. Easy road becomes rough after 6 miles, and there is one stream crossing near the end. The road ends at Box Factory Park, which is an amazing open area surrounded by forest in the shadow of Mears Peak and the Mount Sneffels Wilderness. This area is perfect for a fall picnic to experience the changing aspen colors. Much of this trail is open range, so watch for cattle on the road.

It was very muddy after the recent days rains.

Fun trail. Had some ruts but was able to drive over them. Looks like it could get pretty sloppy after a rain. Beautiful views of the mountains and Ralph Lauren’s ranch. Made it 6.2 miles without issue. Turned around when we ran into a snow covered uphill portion. Still worth the ride.
