Trail Overview

Box Canyon Road travels through rocky terrain and open pine forest. The route follows natural rock slabs and steps, which become larger and more challenging toward the southern end. Near the center of the road is a steep, boulder‑strewn hill with a sharp ninety‑degree turn at the top—this is the primary obstacle. Descending this hill requires making the turn while dropping over large boulders at the same time. Climbing it demands precise tire placement and careful navigation of the turn at the top. Along one section, the road approaches Tarryall Creek as the landscape opens up. At the northern end, there is a small parking area and an entrance “guardian” obstacle. The southern end connects to the China Wall 4WD road. There is no camping along Box Canyon Road. Cell coverage is limited, and you may not be able to get a signal at all.

Difficulty

Rock slabs and rocky outcrops make up the majority of the obstacles. One steep downhill with large boulders and a ninety-degree turn at the top is the main contributor to this rating.
