Trail Overview

Bockman Road is an easy, well-maintained access route through Colorado’s State Forest State Park, ideal for families, campers, and OHV riders looking to explore near Bockman Campground or North Michigan Reservoir without technical challenges. Its gravel surface and scenic alpine setting make it a laid-back drive that still feels remote. Running north from the Ranger Lakes entrance, Bockman Road serves as a designated connector for motorized travel. Though the road is graded, drivers should expect occasional washboarding, loose gravel, and dust—especially during dry summer weekends. Wildlife is abundant, with moose sightings common, so slower speeds and caution are advised. Open seasonally from late spring through fall, Bockman is not plowed in winter and can become impassable with snow or spring mud. Managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, this multi-use route ties together several key recreation areas, offering easy access to trailheads, fishing spots, and campsites while threading through prime Colorado backcountry.

Difficulty

This trail has increasing technical sections, including deep 16-inch ruts, rocky terrain, and steep 15–20 degree climbs. While the lower section is easy, the upper portions require 4WD or AWD, all-terrain tires, and additional clearance to navigate uneven terrain and reduced traction.
