Trail Overview
Discover the lush and exceptionally scenic BLM 8261, a captivating 1.2-mile trail situated directly off Highway 131 that enthusiastically welcomes all street-legal vehicles. Before the true off-road journey even commences, visitors are greeted by two phenomenal, explicitly waypointed dispersed campsites conveniently located just off the pavement. These spots offer rapid access and absolutely breathtaking, panoramic mountain views. As the trail officially starts, it immediately plunges down the steep, densely forested mountainside through a series of sharp, winding switchbacks. Fortunately, these curves provide just enough room for longer vehicles to execute careful multi-point turns if necessary. The path features moderate ruts ranging from 6 to 8 inches, carved into a surface of fine, vibrant red dirt. Because the route traverses such a steep, continuous downgrade, utilizing low gearing is highly recommended to safely manage your descent and drastically minimize excessive brake wear. Surrounded by thick, verdant forest, the landscape feels uniquely rich and completely distinct from the more arid trails in the surrounding region. At the 0.8-mile mark, a spectacular, waypointed scenic viewpoint offers a perfect spot to pause and absorb the remarkable natural beauty. While the initial campsites are highly trailer-friendly, towing is strictly not recommended beyond that point due to the increasingly tight terrain and sharp, restrictive switchbacks. Ultimately, the vibrant red dirt trail gracefully concludes at a securely locked private property gate. Please note that this fine dirt becomes incredibly slick and dangerous when wet; absolutely avoid this mountainside route during or immediately after any rainfall to prevent a hazardous loss of traction.

The fine red dirt surface demands the utmost respect, as it rapidly transforms into a treacherous, highly slippery hazard when introduced to moisture. Consequently, tackling this steep mountainside route during or after rainfall is strictly discouraged due to the severe risk of losing vital vehicle traction. Furthermore, while the very beginning perfectly accommodates trailers, the tight switchbacks render the majority of the trail completely unsuitable for towing.
