Trail Overview
BLM 130 is a dynamic, 4.3-mile desert route that offers a mix of high-speed transit, recreational shooting access, and technical off-road driving. The trail begins as a wide, comfortable dirt road with ample room for two vehicles to safely pass. As you drive toward the canyon, the open landscape provides outstanding 360-degree views of the valley and distant mountain ranges. At the 0.8-mile mark, you will reach a distinct "Y" intersection. Taking the left fork leads to a large, established shooting area featuring target backdrops, tables, and parking for up to 20 vehicles. Continuing on the main trail, the road narrows and becomes significantly rougher, transitioning into a rutted two-track. Towards the end of the route, explorers must navigate a steep, rocky decline. The journey yields a fantastic reward: the trail terminates at a beautifully leveled, secluded campsite just 30 feet from the canyon edge. Uniquely for this region, the site features a large, mature juniper tree that provides excellent shade for 3 to 4 vehicles. Expect to share this route with dirt bikes and horseback riders.

Difficulty
BLM 130 firmly earns a Level 4 rating due to the significant terrain challenges that begin after the 0.8-mile mark. A 4WD vehicle with a minimum of 16 inches of ground clearance is highly recommended. Drivers will encounter deep, unmaintained erosion ruts approaching 18 inches, forcing the vehicle into 20-degree off-camber angles. Additionally, the final segment features a steep decline littered with sharp, loose rocks and a specific obstacle highly likely to lift a tire off the ground, though a narrow bypass is available for careful drivers. A strict severe weather warning applies: absolutely do not enter this area if it has rained recently or if rain is forecasted. The dirt turns into a thick, impassable mud that will rapidly stick the most capable 4x4 trucks.
