Trail Overview

This is a fairly short point-to-point singletrack trail restricted to dirt bike use only. It connects the Mutau OHV trail (FS 7N03) via the Paino Box Loop to Yellowjacket OHV (FS 20W24) and other trails south of Frazier Mountain. There is a dirt bike gate on the west end, which prevents any larger-sized vehicles from utilizing this connector trail. From the west, the trail begins in a forest area and travels up and down several moderate-sized hills. There are occasional ruts and loose rocks on the trail in this section. The trail will then open up to a fast and flowy stretch with frequent whoops and a few short rock gardens. At the halfway point, there is one shallow water crossing across a narrow creek. This is followed by more short rock gardens before the trail becomes a wider packed dirt road through a beautiful meadow. This last section will have occasional whoops, but otherwise will be easy and scenic riding. At the east end, the trail will merge with Yellowjacket OHV trail, which allows mixed vehicle use (4x4, SxS, ATV, and dirt bike). It will continue to run east, crossing San Guillermo Creek multiple times before coming to a dead end. This trail is closed annually from 11/2 to 4/30. A green/red sticker permit is required on OHV as well as a Day Use pass payable to the Los Padres National Forest. Limited to no cellular service in the area. Tread Lightly and Pack-It-Out.

Difficulty

Trail has a few short, steep hill climbs/descents over ruts and loose rocks. There are also several short stretches of rock garden, some sandy washes, and one short, shallow water crossing (depending on the time of year). Most of the track is relatively flat, though, with the majority of the climbs/descents being near the west end. The trail is also its narrowest and has spots with tight vegetation in this same section.
