Trail Overview

FS 14S13 is part of the Sequoia National Forest. It is a sandy, dusty trail that takes you through a pine forest with rock formations. There are various sections that were recently burned by a forest fire. The last mile and a half opens up and treats you to beautiful views of the valley below as well as the adjacent mountain peaks. It is busy in the fall hunting season as the hunters scour the area looking for deer.

Difficulty

There are many rain irrigation "speed bumps" to go over on this trail. High clearance is highly recommended.

Another update with photos: Tree completely across trail. Road is narrow with no immediate turnaround. Had to reverse out approximately 1/4 mile to a wider area near the location shown on map. Not currently passable without clearing the tree. Map shows the turnaround spot. Photos attached.

Heads up — approximately 1/4 mile into the trail there is a freshly fallen tree completely blocking the route. There is currently no safe or easy turnaround spot beyond it, and I had to reverse out. Appears to be a recent fall.

Easy trail with a lot of dips and bumps. Has a killer lookout at the end. The trail is narrow and there are many spots with overgrown plants that will give you pinstripes. I did it in the rain and it was pretty cool.

Was able to complete in 2wd, no lockers necessary either. A few puddles of water were present but nothing too big. There are a few dirt “speedbumps”, used probably to divert water when raining. At the end you can see Buck Rock Lookout aswell as over the forest valley.

Small mud patch in one spot. But mostly dry except the one spot. Beautiful views. Easy trail. Well worth it. Great lookout point at the end.
