Trail Overview

2N93 Wildhorse Meadow is in the San Bernardino National Forest, southeast of Big Bear Lake. This trail has designated camping, with two yellow post sites on 2N93F. It's obvious where Wildhorse Meadow gets its name when you reach the meadow, which is lush green and bordered by pine, oak, cedar, and elm. This is a fun easy trail that you can use to get into Big Bear via dirt rather than the highway. It's also often used as a connector trail to other trails in the area.

Difficulty

Wildhorse Meadow is an easy trail that is wide enough for two vehicles to pass in a lot of areas, although in some spots it does get a bit narrow. It's typically a well-maintained dirt road, but it can get a little rutted-out in some sections after big rains or snow melts. Speaking of snow, this is usually a seasonal trail that is often closed for the winter.

The gate at the both ends of the 2n93 at Hatchery road and the 38 have been closed, please do not attempt to bypass it, cut locks, or create UAs, this is how our OHV roads get closed permanently. We spent Saturday afternoon moving the boulder reported. There are a few road hazards that USFS contractors are going to get to in the next 6 weeks, hopefully sooner and then it will be open. We are trying to get as many of these trails open as soon as possible.

This trail is still under the winter closure order. Yes, I know that there is no snow, and that the southern gate is open, but the trail is closed. The northern gate is lock, BTW, so even if you get in from the south, you won't be able to get back out via either the north gate, or any of the other trails that intersect. Please don't go around the northern gate if you find it locked.

The trail was in decent condition. I entered on the south end near Heart Bar Peak and the 1st mile was pretty rough/difficult, and a couple minor difficult areas due to falling rock and wash outs. Someone noted back in August a tree blocked the road on the south side of the trail but someone had cut it a moved it(thank you). Camped in Wildhorse meadow, no wildlife seen but there were both bear and deer tracks. One note, is that when I left on Friday and headed toward Big Bear, the North end gate was closed for the winter. Thankfully someone had cut a bypass in the fence, if not that would have been a long return ride or I would have had to cut my own. Overall the road is in good condition but there are a lot of rock gardens and falling small boulders. You should expect to get out and clear the road if needed on this road.

Started from the north end and ran into a broken down vehicle blocking the trail. Went back to the south end and started from there. Got about 4 1/2 miles in and there was a tree blocking the trail.

Easy trail except the Sharp Rocks! If you start at the bottom it is really rough for the first mile. Completed on a T7

A little rough and bumpy. Especially at the start. We saw some deer which was our highlight. All in all we had a good time.
