Trail Overview
This is a point-to-point OHV trail connecting the Frazier Mountain Trailhead parking area to other trails on the side of Frazier Mountain. If looking to use off-road vehicles in the Frazier Mountain area and park a transport vehicle or RV in the staging area, this is the only trail that allows initial OHV access up the mountain. Frazier Mountain Road is for street-legal vehicles only until the Chuchupate Campground area, which is about 2 miles further up the mountain from the trailhead parking area. From the north end, this trail starts as a fast and flowy track on packed and loose dirt with several descent/climbs on short, steep hills and occasional switchbacks. Vegetation can be tight through this section for full-sized vehicles, so expect some possible pinstriping. The trail then passes through a number of rock gardens and stretches where the surface is loose rock. Larger rocks in this section are generally smaller than a foot tall. In the final section, the trail will steadily climb up the mountain on a shelf road with a couple of off-camber climbs over embedded rocks and ruts. At the south end, the trail will merge with West Frazier Tie & Mine Rd. This route is closed annually from 11/2 to 4/30. A Green Sticker permit and day use fee are required for OHV use of the Frazier Mountain trail area. Tread Lightly and Pack-It-Out.
Difficulty
This trail has a variety of terrain challenges, including hills comprised of loose dirt, deep ruts, rock gardens, off-camber hillsides, tight vegetation, and steep grades. The trail is narrow and only the width of one vehicle in many places, with few places to pull aside or turn around. High clearance and 4WD are recommended for four-wheel vehicles.
