Trail Overview

The eastern end of this trail connects with the Tule Divide Trail, which is rated 3/10 (4+/10 if wet). Once you split off Tule Divide, this trail immediately becomes 4/10 (if wet, probably a 5+/10). It's mostly hardpack dirt (with high clay content making it very slick when wet) with sections of sand and rock gardens with rocks up to about 18 inches. Expect lots of ruts and washouts. The western end has some fun creek crossings that require careful line selection.

Super fun trail doing it backwards from lake Hughes to San francisqutio some harder spots like creek crossing with bigger rocks, little over grown brush but nothing to crazy!

Ran west to east, gates open on both ends. Normal trail conditions, water crossings are shallow & the rest of the trail was in good shape. The waterfall area on the west end has been backfilled by dirt and now seems to be the easier line.. Made it through with a Jeep Liberty (30" tires & open diffs) in our party without incident.

Nice rocky technical trail. Flowing water in the creek, not really water crossing, more of a way to refresh yourself. We were four vehicles.: Jeep Wrangler, Ford bronco, Land Rover Defender and a Grenadier. All did great with some direction and going slow. Ground clearance was just enough, but you have to pick your path carefully. A fun ride if you’re not in a rush. Great way to learn to off-road. I would suggest starting from the east side of the trail.

Went down to the creek and across on foot. Lots of damage that only heavy equipment will fix, so enter off San Francisquito

EXIT TOWARDS CASTIC WAS CLOSED on this day! Not sure when it will reopen. It was a technical trail. Due to the rain fall there were a ton of trenches. Passed two streams. Very rocky some rocks rolled down to had to manure around those.

First 1-2 miles starting from western trailhead had all of the obstacles. 33’s on badlands, non sas, picking correct lines - didn’t scrape. 1st Water crossing was very shallow. Others were dry with large rocks. Some very steep sections and def pin-striping in places but with a spotter- everything is doable. Rest of the trail is super easy and connects to a 3way intersection of two greens. We took a left and headed North. Super easy and beautiful. The other green has a sketchy off camber gatekeeper at the very end. Hard pass on that today.

Was like a normal fire road with some super fun technical spots with rocks “dried up river crossings” and some inclines or declines depending on the way you go,definitely wouldn’t recommend going alone unless you have a good set up, I only had a 3 inch lift with 285s

First 2 miles is the hardest part. Was definitely nice to have a spotter and to just take it slow. Most capable 4x4 vehicles can complete. Super fun trail and would do again

Completed the trail from east to west. Lots of ruts and water crossings with small to medium sized rocks. Definitely a few spots where you need to get out and spot your line. Also, expect a decent amount of pinstriping. For sure need a high clearance 4x4, preferably underbody protection and rock sliders. Overall, a very fun trail with just enough difficulty.

Super fun trail, every bit a level 4. High clearance and 4x4 are a must. The trail crosses back and forth across a stream, only about 1 foot deep. A couple of crossings require you to get out and spot a line, but the lines are there and very doable. If muddy, this would be a level 5+

First Trail alone and man was it fun! Took about 2.5 hours but that’s just because I was guiding myself through obstacles! Water passes were about 18” deep! No problem for my 37’s Definitely coming back with a friend or two

Decent water crossings at the start off lake Hughes- past that, dirt was decently packed down. Nice mud pit at the 3 way intersection

It was an awesome day on the trail! Water was flowing due to the recent rains, it was incredible. The obstacles on this trail are epic! You MUST have some sort of high clearance, with decent tires. There are three specific areas where we all scraped differentials and rock sliders.

Great trail for beginners with 4 x 4. It had some difficult places. Occasionally river passages.
