Trail Overview
This is a challenging single-track trail that climbs/descends over 1500 ft in 1.9 miles. The trail is composed of loose soil and shale, embedded rocks, and rocky ledges as it follows a steep ridgeline down from the top of the Rand Mountains to the valley floor. There are several short, very steep sections over larger rock gardens and loose shale in the top section that will make the uphill route choice very challenging. As such, we recommend riding it downhill from Trail 30 unless you are an advanced enduro rider. In either direction, completing this trail will feel like an accomplishment and will be rewarded with great views of the valley below. A Green Sticker is required for dirt bike use. Tread Lightly and Pack-It-Out.
Difficulty
The trail has several short- to medium-length steep sections over loose soil, rock gardens, and rocky ledges. There are also steep sidehill drop-offs along the ridgeline, so careful tire placement is a must. The uphill route for dirt bikes raises the difficulty factor to the rating given to this trail.
History
This area has a rich history of mining, and there are still some active operations in the area. Note on the northwest side of the area, next to Randsburg, there is an old mining area that has been fenced off due to high Arsenic content in the soil.
