Trail Overview

This 1.44-mile spur delivers a challenging, rewarding climb to a level dispersed camping area just below a panoramic granite knob overlook. The trail is a rough two-track defined by steep, low-traction sections of loose dirt and embedded rock (visible in photos), requiring careful application of power. While the trees along the trail largely survived the 2020 Creek Wildfire, the route runs high onto an exposed ridge. Crucially, the route stops just short of the ultimate summit. Drivers must observe the numerous FS signs stopping vehicle travel before the final granite knob overlook. Park responsibly and continue on foot to fully appreciate the views out over the surrounding high country and Shaver Lake below. Make sure to catch a spectacular sunset!

Difficulty

This trail demands a high level of off-road attention. The rating is justified by the steep grade and the persistently loose dirt and rutted track, which requires Four Wheel Drive-Low to maintain torque and prevent spinning on the ascent. High clearance is mandatory for safe transit over the embedded rock and ruts.
