Trail Overview
Short, scenic, and surprisingly spicy, Texas Flat A Spur (FS 6S038A) is a quick detour that promises a great reward if you can handle the exit. Branching off the main Texas Flat trail, this route begins as a tight, winding two-track composed of natural dirt and gravel, meandering down through the trees toward the North Fork of Willow Creek. It feels like a hidden gem leading to a secret hideaway—and it is. The trail terminates at a fantastic dispersed campsite right along the water, offering solitude and the sound of the creek. However, the price of admission is paid on the way out. The final 200-foot descent into the camp is a steep, loose chute filled with exposed roots and eroded steps, turning a simple camping trip into a technical climb to escape the creek bottom. Do NOT attempt when wet without a winch.
Difficulty
This spur earns a Rating 4 strictly due to the final 200 feet. While the majority of the trail is a moderate drive, the drop into the campsite features steep, loose dirt and awkwardly rooted steps that degrade traction significantly. Climbing back out requires 4WD (even when dry) and a steady foot on the throttle to scramble over the roots without losing momentum or digging in. Stock vehicles with street tires may find themselves stuck at the bottom, unable to find the grip needed to ascend the loose grade.
