Trail Overview
Savoy's Bumpy Return is a moderately challenging, 1.8-mile off-road connector in the Spangler Hills OHV Area. This narrow, unpaved route features deep whoops, steep hills, and loose sandy sections requiring careful tire placement and high ground clearance. Ranging in elevation from 3,655 to 3,902 feet, the trail winds through desert Joshua trees and offers scenic canyon views.
With a technical rating of 5, the route includes tight transitions and loose, rocky climbs that can become slick and muddy when wet. Located northeast of Ridgecrest, the area features occasional low-flying military jets, wild burros, and coyotes. Cell service is limited, and visitors should be prepared for remote, harsh desert conditions.
Access Description
The route is located within the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spangler Hills Off-Highway Vehicle Area. Off-highway vehicles must have a current California green sticker, red sticker, or street-legal registration. There are no fees or permits required for casual day use, but travelers must be self-sufficient and prepared for remote desert conditions.
