Savoy Road

Savoy Road is a scenic 3.5-mile desert trail ideal for four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes looking to explore the rugged foothills near the Golden Valley Wilderness. Starting off Trona Road, the trail initially presents as a wide sandy wash with several dispersed camping sites, making it an excellent starting point for a weekend of desert exploration. As it progresses east, the route narrows and transitions from soft sand to hardpack dirt, taking on a highly whooped-out character that demands good suspension and steady throttle control. Rising from a minimum elevation of 3,460 feet to a peak of 3,903 feet, the route accumulates around 454 feet of elevation gain while winding through an expansive desert landscape dotted with Joshua trees. This moderately challenging trail, rated a 4 out of 10, serves as a gateway to a massive network of single-track trails winding deeper into the surrounding mountains. While the route offers stunning panoramic views and direct access to hiking and equestrian trails at the boundary of the Golden Valley Wilderness, it lies outside the official OHV open area, requiring visitors to stay on designated routes and check local regulations. Offroaders should prepare for self-sufficiency as the area has limited cellular service and experiences extreme summertime temperatures that necessitate packing plenty of water and emergency supplies. The journey culminates at an amazing overlook providing breathtaking vistas of the valley below, offering a rewarding endpoint to this classic Mojave Desert trek.
