Trail Overview

This short 1.8-mile point-to-point trail connects Rattlesnake Road and Signal Hill Trail. Service vehicles typically use this trail to access the Signal towers on top of Signal Hill. It is also the back way out from the Signal Hill Trail. Signal Hill has vast views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. An old stone structure was used as a Lookout for the Forest Service.

It apparently is not the actual trail itself that is closed, but the road leading to it.   Closure isn't really permanent, but longer-term than OnX will allow me to specify.  A sign indicates that this road is closed from 2024 through 2028.   It seems that the only access to signal peak itself, and beyond it, to this trail from the other side, is via the much more difficult “Signal Peak” trail.

Red Mountain Road Trail can be accessed by the following ride types:

  • Single Track
  • 50 Inch
  • 60 Inch
  • High Clearance
  • Full Width
