Trail Overview

Front Line Road is in the San Bernardino National Forest just south of Big Bear Lake. It provides a casual meandering trail run alongside a shallow canyon formed by the 8,000-foot San Bernardino Mountain Range to the north and the 10,000-foot San Gorgonio Wilderness mountains to the south. There are numerous places to pull over for lunch or to take in the many commanding views of the mountains and tall pines that guide your way.

Difficulty

Front Line Road comprises hard-packed sandy dirt and is well-maintained and graded flat but because of flooding in the winter, it could be a bit rutted out. There are no obstacles, and it is wide enough for two vehicles to pass easily in most places. The trail suits any driver's experience level using a high-clearance SUV.
