Trail Overview
The Pole Creek - FS 8 trail offers a peaceful, scenic journey through a towering, majestic pine forest with a lush, green understory. Starting right off Highway 89, this route heads westward into the beautiful woodlands, serving as a fantastic main artery that provides convenient access to several cool spur roads along the way. The drive is exceptionally open and inviting, remaining roughly two cars wide for the majority of the trip, making it a completely stress-free experience when passing any oncoming traffic. Along the route, you will gently coast over a sturdy, flat bridge fitted with metal guardrails. The journey ultimately concludes at a wide, spacious turnaround area where a sturdy metal pipe gate marked with red and white reflectors officially closes the road to further motorized travel.
Difficulty
Earning a very mild difficulty rating of 1 out of 10, the trail surface consists of excellent, highly compacted gravel and smooth dirt from start to finish. Because this road is remarkably well-graded and consistently wide, it is an absolute breeze to navigate. The potential obstacles are incredibly minimal, consisting only of a few patches of light washboarding, very shallow ruts, and occasionally some small, loose rocks that have tumbled down from the steeper dirt cut-banks along the trail's edges. The bridge crossing is seamless, and the main travel path remains completely free of any deep ditches, large boulders, or complex clearances, making for a wonderfully gentle and relaxing ride.
