Trail Overview

This scenic out-and-back route begins right at the junction of Highway 89, heading west into a beautiful, dense pine forest. The journey starts out on a well-maintained, wide gravel and dirt road, gently following the natural, shaded lines of the Deep Creek drainage. As you venture deeper into the woods, the character of the road gradually shifts, transitioning from a wide dirt path covered in scattered pine needles into a charming two-track trail with a low, grassy median growing between the tire tracks. Along the edges of the route, you will spot several large cut logs and a notably large boulder resting just off the shoulder, serving as rustic trail markers. As you approach the end of the 1.9-mile route, the forest rapidly begins to reclaim the area. The trail becomes noticeably narrow, with tall, vibrant green bushes and thick leafy vegetation heavily encroaching on both sides of the path. The track officially concludes at a point where this brush becomes too dense and the road too tight to safely push forward, making it a clear and natural turnaround spot for your forest adventure.

Difficulty

This trail earns a mild 2 out of 10 difficulty rating, with the primary challenges being encroaching vegetation and a few uneven surfaces. While the beginning of the road is smooth and flat, you will quickly navigate sections with loose, scattered cobble and lightly embedded rocks along minor hillside cuts. The dirt track also features shallow ruts and small bumps hidden beneath layers of fallen pine needles and forest debris. The most notable obstacle is the heavy overgrowth near the end of the trail; the tight brush will unavoidably rub against your doors, so expect some light pinstriping. Additionally, pay close attention to your outer edges to avoid catching a tire on the large cut logs and boulders resting along the narrowest points of the shoulder. Just maintain a slow, steady momentum and steer carefully through the tighter gaps to enjoy a smooth ride.
