Trail Overview
This 2-mile trail climbs 275 feet and drops 142 feet as it winds through an area lined with small brush and lots of pine trees. The surface is pumice and sand with small ruts throughout, plus washboards and a few off-camber sections. There are lots of whoops and dips that keep things interesting. The trail runs along a section of shelf road and is marked by orange diamonds with arrows on some trees. Be cautious of downed trees that have been cut and pushed to the side. For rock hounds, there is obsidian scattered along the trail. You'll catch some glimpses of the Glass Mountains through the trees. This trail is part of the larger Lookout Loop route.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail despite the various features. The ruts are small, the off-camber sections are manageable, and while the whoops and dips add some bouncing, they don't present technical challenges. The shelf road section requires attention, but isn't difficult. The main consideration is watching for the cut trees along the sides.
