Trail Overview
This 3.3-mile trail (6.6 miles out and back) climbs 42 feet but drops 163 feet as it runs through a sparse pine forest. The surface is sand and pumice with some small rocks and a few larger ones, all under 12 inches. Starting around mile 1.6, you'll encounter more ruts, all under 12 inches, as well as washboards. Some of the brush is overgrown in the median and on the sides, and could give you pinstripes. The trail offers views of the Glass Mountains and Bald Mountain. There's a small area at the end to turn around or set up a dispersed camp. This trail is part of the larger Lookout Loop route.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail overall. The sand and pumice surface is manageable, and while there are rocks and ruts present, they're all under 12 inches. The washboards after mile 1.6 add some vibration, but nothing technically challenging. The main consideration is potential pinstriping from overgrown brush.
