Trail Overview
This wide, well-maintained gravel and dirt road has minimal to no ruts and no significant obstacles, with plenty of room for vehicles to pass. Around 1.9 miles, the dense forest opens into Sandy Flat, offering expansive views of the surrounding mountains and forest.
Overall, this is an easy, scenic route that connects to numerous surrounding trails and provides access to ample camping throughout the area.

History
Inyo National Forest was established in 1907 and today protects a vast section of the Eastern Sierra surrounding Mammoth Lakes. The area has a long history of Native American use, mining, ranching, and recreation, while its dramatic landscape was shaped by volcanic activity, glaciers, and the uplift of the Sierra Nevada.
