Trail Overview

Set along a high, scenic mountain ridge within a forest recovering from the 2018 Ranch Fire with standing pine snags and fresh brush regrowth in the Mendocino National Forest, Linger Longer - FS 17N14 offers an engaging ridge drive. Accessed via Board Camp Ridge Road - FS 17N10, the Mendocino Scenic Corridor, or the Letts Lake Trail, this 2.2-mile single-track dirt connector provides scenic throughput toward the Letts Valley Recreation Area and Upper Letts Lake. Outdoor enthusiasts and campers frequently travel this ridge route to locate quiet dispersed camping spots, take in sweeping vistas toward the west and southeast, or access popular hiking and fishing grounds around Upper Letts Lake. The road surface consists of a narrow, single-lane dirt track featuring rolling terrain dips, loose stones, and deep water ruts. Departing the high ridgeline, the track meanders downhill through dappled shade and sun-drenched clearings, passing several cozy roadside pullouts. Drivers must carefully negotiate occasional deep erosion trenches along the dirt surface before the route concludes smoothly at the junction for Upper Letts Lake.

Difficulty

This single-lane dirt ridge route features notable ground-clearance challenges along its downhill descent. Primary obstacles visible along the track include deep longitudinal erosion ruts carved into the dry soil, exposed rock fragments, and off-camber dirt dips. To navigate these hazards safely without contacting vehicle underbody components, maintain a slow, steady speed, carefully straddle the deep central ruts, and pick clean, elevated lines over loose dirt edges.
