Set along an elevated subalpine ridge featuring mixed conifer timber, mountain sagebrush, and vibrant summer wildflowers within the Tahoe National Forest, Ladybug Peak (FS 0072-028-06) delivers a rewarding high-country spur drive. Accessed directly off of Verdi Peak Road (FS 72) near the crest, this 0.4-mile single-lane out-and-back track climbs along mountain contours to reach a small parking and camping clearing just below the summit. Outdoor enthusiasts and backcountry explorers frequently travel this route to take the short, rewarding foot trail up to Ladybug Peak for breathtaking, 360-degree panoramas overlooking Boca Reservoir, Stampede Reservoir, the Sierra Nevada crest, and distant valleys. The driving surface consists of a narrow, rough dirt and stone track, earning a technical Grade 3 difficulty rating. Departing the main road junction, the path ascends steadily over embedded rocks and short, steep, off-camber pitches. Low-hanging gnarled tree limbs and dense side brush closely hug the corridor, making paint pinstriping very likely before reaching the top turnaround clearing.
