Trail Overview

Located in a peaceful, high-altitude forest, Horse Meadows Spur B - FS 31051B is a 1-mile spur route managed by Sequoia National Forest. Accessed via the top of Horse Meadows Road, this trail is primarily used by visitors seeking remote primitive camping and access to nearby high-country hiking trails like the Salmon Creek Trail. The road consists of a narrow, hard-packed dirt single track lined with pine trees and overgrown brush. Beginning at the final fork marked by a numbered stake, a small dispersed camping spot sits right at the junction. Continuing less than a quarter-mile down on the right brings you to a much larger campsite along the meadow's edge, featuring a campfire ring and space for multiple vehicles. The trail concludes shortly after at a simple turnaround that can also accommodate small camp setups.

Difficulty

This trail is rated a 2 and consists of a mostly flat, hard-packed dirt surface. Caution is required near the main meadow campsite, where water erosion has created rutted drop-offs, and recent rains can leave the dirt soft and muddy. The primary challenge is the narrow corridor where overhanging tree branches and brush present a pinstriping hazard, particularly past the turnoff for the meadow campsite.
