Trail Overview

Gasquet Mountain Road (GMR) is just one of many routes available to access the beautiful Six Rivers National Forest. GMR is a single-lane gravel road that will reveal stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The road surface will change periodically from packed small gravel to loose softball size rocks. The width of the road alternates from narrow (one vehicle) to wide (two vehicles) quite often. Between Gasquet Mountain and US-199 plan on taking it slow due to blind corners and narrow sections of the road. The road can be steep at times. Most steep sections are rutted which can easily be straddled with an SUV or high clearance 4x4 vehicle. Cell phone service is spotty, even with a vehicle cell booster.

Great condition, mostly drove 2nd. Didn’t need 4wd until the steepish climb

Trail is fairly easy mix of single and double width gravel with the occasional paved section. Mostly well graded gravel and only a few ruts. No idea how someone lost an oil filter but that was probably the most dangerous thing I came across. Some sections are fairly steep, but nothing I saw needed 4WD or high clearance. A few dispersed campsites along the way.
