While the trail is generally manageable, the primary challenge is the significant amount of overgrown vegetation throughout the center median. Drivers must exercise caution to avoid potential damage to the undercarriage and must be mindful of fire safety when traversing dry, tall grass with a hot vehicle. Navigation can be slightly tricky at the west entrance, as the path is not immediately obvious; however, it is marked by a post labeled with the Barntop trail number. Additionally, travelers will encounter a gated section that must be closed behind them to ensure proper land management. While two-wheel drive is sufficient with good tires, high clearance is recommended to safely clear the overgrown brush.
