Trail Overview

Forest Service Road 2S114 is a 4-mile point-to-point trail that climbs almost 200 feet and drops nearly 300 feet. Starting near Pumice Mine Road (FS 1S40) just off FS 1S124, the trail begins in a large meadow with a gravel and sand surface lined with sagebrush. It is one vehicle wide and winds through a mix of open meadows and pine forest, offering sweeping views of the Eastern Sierra. The trail features heavy side-by-side use, resulting in whoops and washboards, and can be very dusty. The combination of meadows, forest, and long sight lines makes it an enjoyable and scenic off-road experience for SxS, but very bumpy and uncomfortable for other vehicles.

Difficulty

Sections of the trail include steep downhill segments, deep ruts, and uneven washboarded surfaces. Overgrown branches along the edges may contact taller vehicles. The most challenging portions appear in the meadows and just after crossing Baldwin Mountain Road, where the whoops and washboards are more pronounced. 4x4 is not required, but high clearance is recommended for these rougher sections.
