Trail Overview

This fine-dirt trail travels up and over rolling forested hills with minor ruts reaching 3–4 inches deep. The route is van and trailer-friendly, with no significant obstacles noted. The fine-dirt surface can become more difficult when wet. Camping is plentiful throughout the entire trail, with more than a dozen level, shaded campsites. Many can accommodate up to six vehicles each, making this a great route for both individual and group camping.

This trail is rated Level 2 because of the fine-dirt surface and minor 3 to 4-inch ruts. There are no significant obstacles, making it an easy and trailer-friendly route when dry.

History

Inyo National Forest was established in 1907 and today protects a vast section of the Eastern Sierra surrounding Mammoth Lakes. The area has a long history of Native American use, mining, ranching, and recreation, while its dramatic landscape was shaped by volcanic activity, glaciers, and the uplift of the Sierra Nevada.
