Trail Overview
This one-vehicle-wide trail starts at the end of Inspiration Wash and cuts and winds through a very sandy wash with lots of mud walls lining the trail throughout. You will have to cut in and out of the wash on steep walls due to collapsed mud walls in the wash, creating mandatory detours and technical challenges. The wash starts widening after the first mile, though the mud walls are still tall, creating an enclosed canyon feel. After mile 2, the trail cuts out of the mud hills and opens up, transitioning to more open terrain. The route is within Anza Borrego State Park and is restricted to highway legal vehicles only. Please be respectful and stay on designated roads to protect this fragile environment.
Difficulty
This trail requires four wheel drive with high clearance and good tires, which are highly recommended for the very sandy wash and steep wall crossings. Airing down is essential for traction in the deep sand. Cutting in and out of the wash on steep walls to bypass collapsed mud walls demands skilled driving and good approach angles. The narrow width leaves little margin for error. Flash flood awareness is critical in this wash environment.
