Trail Overview

This trail starts just off Highway 22 and travels parallel to it, ending around 4 miles later at the Mile High Mountain Trailhead next to Highway 22. The trail is fairly straight but climbs almost 300 feet as it gains elevation. The surface is mostly fine sand, which can be deep in a few sections, requiring momentum management. You'll enjoy nice views of the Santa Rosa Mountains throughout the route. The trail goes in and out of Inspiration Wash and Fonts Point Wash, creating varied terrain. The route is lined with many desert plants, including creosote bushes, Atriplex polycarpa (allscale saltbush), and Ambrosia dumosa (white bursage) that frame your journey. Be aware of ruts and uneven sections scattered along the way. This trail travels through Anza Borrego State Park and is restricted to highway legal vehicles only. The east side starts at the blue emergency call box.
