Trail Overview

The Dill Scenic Trail is an out and back at Shasta National Forest in California. There are great views of Mount Shasta as well as the surrounding mountains. This trail is not difficult by any means, but some higher ground clearance and good tires will go a long way. The trail starts out extremely dusty with some ruts and becomes rocky in the second half. There are several places to camp along the trail. A ground tent would work at the top, however, a roof top tent would be more enjoyable with the slope and rocks. Cell service is spotty so be sure to download offline maps.

Trail dusty lower half. Turns to small but loose rock, 2 wheel drive ,but need good clearance and tires. A few pull outs on way up ,camp in a pinch. Good turn around at top of trail. The old road that climbed further up to the canyon has ben decommissioned. fallen trees and very rough, last time we drove up there 1993.

Trail was pretty easy. When going all the way up some trees were down on the road but moved to the side.

Trail is open. Downed trees have been moved off to side. It's a great view at the top.

There are several downed trees along this trail. With space to go around some, others (if your willing) can be climbed over. may damage your vehicle so be careful! They are dead and rotted trees so an axe or chainsaw would make quick work of them. it managed to climb over one but was under equipped for others so had to turn back.

Nice trail my wife and I camped on over night in hopes of seeing a good view of mount shasta but wasn’t so lucky due to snow.

Beautiful and was the closest I’ve ever been to Mt. Shasta. Most of it is a dirt road, there was a rocky section, after that the last mile was snowed out to about a foot. I didn’t have too much of an issue finding traction but lockers were required. Air down!
