Trail Overview

Del Sur Ridge (FS 6N18) is a scenic 9.3-mile ridge-line route in the Angeles National Forest, perfect for intermediate drivers seeking expansive canyon vistas and a taste of technical terrain. Offering panoramic views of chaparral-covered ridges and the distant Los Angeles Aqueduct, this trail provides an engaging drive without requiring an extremely modified rig. The route climbs, accumulating over 1,880 feet of elevation gain along its length. While much of the dirt and gravel surface remains relatively mild, offroaders will encounter moderately challenging obstacles such as deep ruts, off-camber sections, and deep mud holes after wet weather. Because the northern section of the ridge route dead-ends at a locked gate near Bouquet Reservoir, the trail is best run as a through route by transitioning onto Quarry Road (FS 6N19) and Coarse Gold Road (FS 5N24). High-clearance vehicles with 4WD and robust tires are highly recommended to safely navigate the eroded sections and steep climbs. Unsanctioned bypasses are scattered along the ridge, but drivers must stay on the main trail to prevent environmental damage and respect local land management. Accessing the trailheads from Santa Clarita requires approaching via Bouquet Canyon Road or Vasquez Canyon Road, keeping in mind that there are no parking or staging areas at the trailheads themselves.

Difficulty

Most of this trail is easily drivable. Some sections feature deep ruts and mud; others are significantly eroded and off-camber. High clearance, 4WD, and good tires are strongly recommended. Airing down is not necessary but will make for a more comfortable ride.

Trail is like a 3/10 but has little offshoots that can be challenging if you want to spice it up. Would definitely recommend high clearance in some sections. Lots of washboards

Pretty cool trail with some really nice views. High drive through the mountains which was basically a fire road with some cool little offshoots nothing seemed particularly crazy. Easy run never dropped it into low range. I took this trail from Coarse Gold Rd entrance off Bouquet Canyon, ran North across Del Sur, and down Quarry Rd. Overall a great afternoon drive. Coarse Gold was pretty rutted, suggest high clearance.

Easy day, dirt perfect conditions. No mud! No rutted sections honestly easiest I’ve seen it in a long time. Essentially a mild fire road. Tons of offshoots that look actually challenging.

Entire trail has been thoroughly graded. Some bumpy spots, mostly smooth. No challenge for a 4x4. A few little offshoots that are fun. Ran the entire trail in heavy rain in 2wd.

Super fun trail where you can take a technical line or stay on a the fire road, beginning has some gnarly sand but most part it was a great trail with some lose rocks spots just be careful of dirt bikes and can-ams

Service trail up top is super easy 2/10. But the chutes off to the sides can be steep 6/10.

The trail is enjoyable, but you're limited to going only as far as the gate. It includes some challenging sections and sand at the beginning of the trail.

Beautiful trail, technically more difficult than Id expected, but easy enough if you take it slow. Starts with a very dusty patch, but progresses to rock fairly quickly. Large drop to the east side of the trial makes some stretches higher stakes, but nothing perilous with some caution. N.B the trail suggests you can get to Bouquet Reservoir, however the last few miles of trail are private LADWP properly, closed with a gate (See image) so you have to turn around and descend via Quarry Road 6N19.

Funny easy trail. Did scrape at some points during the ride. Many different side trails to take. Must try!

It was a perfect day for a dive. The trail had some somewhat deep sand near the entrance and was full of deep ruts and a few off camber sections to get around some of the deeper ones. It has a few side roads that a truck could take that were gnarly and very steep climbs, others got narrow and were only suitable for motorcycles. You definitely need high clearance, but I was in 4-Hi the whole time with out problems, though I have 35's, so with much smaller tires I would pick line carefully or be sure to bring some traction boards just incase.
