Trail Overview

Crab Flats is a smooth, hardpack dirt road with flowing terrain and minimal technical difficulty. Riders can expect a few shallow water crossings, occasionally reaching shin depth, but otherwise easy travel throughout the route. Most high-clearance vehicles can navigate this trail, with 2WD typically sufficient under normal conditions. Near the south end, the route descends along the mountainside, opening up scenic views into the canyon below. At the bottom of the trail, visitors can access Splinters Cabin and the picnic area via a short hike.

Overall an excellent day on the trails. It's an easy drive with no major obstacles. We went for the route of Rouse Ranch (2N25) to Crab Flats (3N34) to hook creek (2N26Y) to loop around to Cedar Glen however the gate for Hook Creek at the turn towards Dishpan Springs is closed so we had to do the turn around and back to the Rouse Ranch trail head. Fyi: gate at both ends of Hook Creek (2N26Y) is closed.
