Branching off Forest Highway 7, Brownell - FS 21N04 is a rugged, single-track dirt and gravel out-and-back spur climbing steadily along a picturesque mountain flank. Early miles wind gently past scenic pullouts, leading to a prime dispersed campsite around 0.4 miles that features an elevated fire ring overlooking valley views to the northeast. Past 0.7 miles, fallen burned trees narrow the corridor, forcing precise maneuvering around cut log ends and rutted side slopes. At 1.6 miles, a major storm washout completely erodes the roadbed, making further travel impossible and requiring a turnaround at the spacious 1.4-mile turnout.
