Trail Overview
Launching from Ted Kipf Road, this gravel and sand route threads between desert bushes lining both edges. Small washes interrupt your progress with steps under 12 inches as you dip in and out of drainages. Minor ruts pepper the surface without causing serious trouble. At the mile mark, a fence materializes, requiring you to follow its line outside private land, so stay tight to the established route here. You're in the limited-use side of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, where wandering off trail isn't an option.
Difficulty
Those small wash crossings under 12 inches barely slow you down with adequate clearance. The minor ruts add texture without demanding advanced skills. The fence line section at mile one requires attention to stay on the right side of the boundary, respecting private property. Otherwise, straightforward terrain that any competent high clearance vehicle handles easily.
