Trail Overview
This very sandy trail features hard pack to loose-sand surface, creating varying traction conditions. The route is a wide open flat desert run with very little vegetation across the barren landscape. The trail is fairly smooth with a few uneven surfaces along the way, but generally straightforward. The route heads right for Fish Creek Mountain, which looms larger as you approach. The trail does drop in and out of some small washes as it navigates the terrain and crosses BLM 075 along the way. There's a short, steep ramp to get in and out of Carrizo Wash at the end, where the trail terminates. Lane's Place is along this trail, a unique spot where there are places to sit, relax, swing on a swing set, and have a beer, providing a welcome oasis and gathering spot.
Difficulty
The very sandy surface alternating between hard pack and loose sand requires four wheel drive, and airing down is recommended for traction. The drops in and out of small washes are manageable but require attention. The short, steep ramp to get in and out of Carrizo Wash is the main technical challenge, demanding momentum and careful line choice on both descent and climb. High clearance is beneficial for the wash crossings. Despite being fairly smooth overall, the sand conditions and wash ramp create a moderate challenge.
