Trail Overview
This single vehicle wide trail starts in the south at BLM 085 South and features very fine soft sand with some very deep sand throughout. The route runs by some small sand walls and is surrounded by seasonal desert wildflowers and a variety of desert bushes, including creosote bushes. You'll enjoy great views of the Fish Creek Mountains as you navigate. The trail encounters some deep ruts up to 12 inches deep scattered along the way. The wash eventually gets wider, but the trail remains single vehicle wide, creating a narrow corridor through the expanding terrain. The route crosses over BLM 075, BLM 078, and BLM 119. When the trail cuts over BLM 119, it enters a single-track sandy trail that cuts through an area with lots of brush as a less-used trail before eventually opening to a small very sandy wash. The section right before the end cuts into a little canyon of 3-foot-tall mud walls. The trail ends at Carrizo Wash. Four wheel drive and good tires are highly recommended.
Difficulty
The very fine soft sand with some very deep sand requires four wheel drive and good tires, which are highly recommended, with airing down essential. The single vehicle width leaves no room for error throughout. The deep ruts up to 12 inches demand high clearance. The less-used section after BLM 191, with lots of brush, adds navigation challenges. The little canyon with 3-foot mud walls near the end creates a technical finish.
