‘Wanted to do a quick and easy trail while we were at Idyllwild. The trail is definitely easy. I didn’t have to engage 4H or 4L. I decided to air down a bit, about half a mile in, just for comfort. We saw a few Subs on the trail. Saw a few folks out camping. The trail is narrow on some spots but we only encountered a few vehicles going the opposite direction — and didn’t have any problems, space-wise, letting them through. I enjoyed the trees up near the fire lookout. I was hoping for epic views but didn’t really find any. All in all, it was a quick, no-drama, “out-and-back” trail before heading back home.

23' Bronco Sport Badlands with 9" clearance. Took the trail to the Black Mt Group Campsite and the Noulder Basin Campgroud. The trail is wide open and very easy. There are a couple areas where I had to choose a good line just to ensure ground clearance was okay. Most of the way it's just a dirt road. I think a 2WD truck with clearance could make this road. Boulder Basin had 1 camper. We picked a sport and had lunch. A couple of great view sports along the way. Most of the trail is under the shade of trees. Any 4X4 or suv with AWD can make this trail.

This is by far one of my favorites camping spots in SoCal, easy access, lots of shade, clean campgrounds, restrooms, and the best of all, the gorgeous views out to west at sunset. This place has everything, off roading, hiking, rock climbing and biking . Stop reading the reviews and get out here!

This is definitely not a “1” rated trail. There are two sections you might get stuck without high clearance. And or 4x4

Trail was super easy most anything with a little bit of clearance could make it up. Saw multiple Subarus up there. Some pretty nice yellow post sites along the trail with great views.

Easy trail for a 4x4 but plenty of stock 2WD vehicles can make it if you pick the right line and take your time on the rutted parts.

Very easy, simple dirt road with some paved sections. Lots of camping and hikers. Plenty of room to pass on the bottom portion. When you get towards the end it starts getting rocky and the final few miles of the road (not highlighted in green on OnX) is very rocky with some ruts, but my stock Xterra did fine.

I talked to the San Jacinto Ranger station today. They confirmed that Black Mountain Trail is closed until May 21. Camping reservations are available May 21. There is a closed gate about 2 miles up.
