Trail Overview
Airola Meadow Loop is an easy, scenic 3.3-mile trail perfect for beginners, families, and high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles seeking a mellow adventure through beautiful forest terrain. Starting on a graded logging road, the route transitions into an ungraded but well-maintained dirt track that offers great views without the risk of pinstriping your rig. The trail spans elevations between 4,980 and 5,330 feet, with a gentle cumulative elevation gain of around 480 feet. During the early season, fallen logs may block the path, so carrying a chainsaw or hand saw is highly recommended to clear obstacles.
As the trail winds through the mountain terrain, visitors should remain mindful of local land ownership, as some Forest Service roads traverse active private property with grazing cattle in the summer. Respecting the historical Airola Meadow and its long-standing family cabin is essential, and travelers are asked to practice Leave No Trace principles to keep the area pristine. The route is suitable for stock sport utility vehicles, SxSs, and other high-clearance off-road vehicles. With a technical rating of 3, this mellow loop provides a relaxing drive with gorgeous mountain meadows and dense pine canopies.
History
