Trail Overview
This is the only major ATV trail in the Crandall trail system north of Long Barn, California. It starts right near the Crandall Campground, and is relatively easy overall, making it ideal for families or newer riders to go on a short ride near the campground. It climbs up steeply from the east entrance – keep your momentum up. The initial steep slope is the hardest part of the trail. The trail has been built up with cement pavers to help prevent erosion and rutting on the steep slope. The grade mellows out on the hilltop after the initial climb, continuing on a wide path through the sparse pine forest, with lots of little loose rocks in the trail. There are huge burn piles of cut trees lining the trail as this area has been cleared. After 1.1 miles and over 450 feet elevation gain, the trail ends on FS 4N15 under Crandall Peak. This trail is seasonally closed 12/16 – 4/14 to motorized use.
Difficulty
This trail is moderately easy overall as it only has the initial steep climb which adds a technical element, but the rest of the trail is pretty easy with no major obstacles. This is rated as Moderate by the Forest Service.
