Trail Overview

This is a short but easy single track that is less than half a mile long and stays a gradual grade the whole time. The north end starts out at a trail sign next to some big burn piles of cut logs, as this area has had a lot of forestry clearing work. It winds through the forest, next to a lot of downed trees that line the trail. Any downed logs across the trail were cut. The trail remains very easy the whole time, just weaving next to young pine trees, with good visibility and no major obstacles. It connects with 16EV178 at an unmarked intersection on the south end. The intersection is easy to miss, and 16EV178 feels more like a continuation of this trail. This trail is seasonally closed 12/16 - 4/14 to motorized use.

Access Description

This trail system in the Stanislaus National Forest can be accessed from either the Deer Creek Staging Area on the west side of the trail system, or from Crandall Campground on the east side of the trail system. The Deer Creek Staging Area is a primitive dirt lot with space for several vehicles and small trailers, accessed via Italian Bar Road. The Crandall OHV Parking and Camping Area has several primitive camp spots with picnic tables. All of the trails are open from April 15 to December 15, but it gets really hot and dry in the summer here, so the best times to visit are spring and fall.
