Trail Overview

Twister Wash is a 5.1-mile trail that starts at the I-15 exit 27 Black Rock Road about 20 minutes south of St. George, UT. This trail is rated 3 of 10 and is comprised mostly of dirt and sand wash tracks. Twister Wash is one of four connecting trails that creates a loop known locally as Elephants, Virgins, and Things. The connecting trails are West Mountain Valley Wash, Starvation Point, and Black Rock Trail. This trail combination is generally run in a counterclockwise manner but can be run in either direction. Twister Wash has impressive views of the sandstone buttes and has two key elements along the trail. The Twister Wash itself is a winding section of the trail through a narrow wash that will challenge the flex on a stock vehicle. After exiting the wash the trail takes you to an area of five sink holes which occurred naturally in the early 1950s. Weather permitting you and drive through at least one of the sinkholes. The trail will continue to loop around with a nice overlook of the Virgin River and end at the intersection with West Mountain Valley Wash trail. The namesake for these trails is combined by the view of Elephant Rock (on Starvation Point trail), the views and ability to walk to the Virgin River on the West Mountain Valley Wash trail, and the Things being the sinkholes.

This is not a 3.More like a 5.saw a gate that said keep gate closed so just opened it the continued, after that is where it went from easy to moderate.Had to spot like two areas then had to use 4L on some spots steep and rocky.can definitely seen some rocks scraped. If I was solo I would’ve kept going but with kids not too comfortable.Just started of roading didn’t want to risk it.Will be back.

Trail conditions were perfect after the rain we received for the past few days. No mud or water on the trail. Traction in and out of the wash was never an issue. We did the Elephant and Things loop and only saw a few other vehicles. I drove a stock 2025 Ford Bronco Heritage w/ 35's and my friend drove his 2012 FJ with a 2.25" lift and 33's. We never had issues with clearance.

I agree with the Trail Report from January 2024. This trail is definitely a 4 more likely a 5. We had 8 rigs with varying modifications. A stock Power Wagon did make it down with some spotting and back end about 6' off the ground at one point through the wash. A Jeep Rubicon 392 pulling a Humvee trailer also made it. There is no place to turn around when in the wash. There is really no place to camp near the Virgin River also.

Definitely a five, with some blind drops/rises. Lives up to its name with fun twists. We made it through with minimal spotting in a stock Jeep Rubicon. We ran clockwise.
