Trail Overview

TV-1 is a nasty rock-crawling trail meant for only the most extreme rock-crawling vehicles. The majority of the trail is full of several-foot-high boulders and huge rock ledges. As it leaves Table Mesa Road, it starts as an easy dirt road, goes past a shooting bay, and gains some elevation in the hills full of saguaro cactus. The first hill climb and descent are already pretty nasty, being loose and steep, with off-camber corners and embedded rock faces. If the first hill and descent make you uncomfortable, definitely turn around now! It drops down into a wash with boulders and slab rock ledges. These are extremely jagged, uneven mounds of rock, with holes in the runups, and off-camber layers. The obstacles are in a flat wash, so there's no cliff exposure, which helps, but they get increasingly more difficult the farther south you go. Part of the trail is just going over a boulder field. Some of the hardest and tallest ledges are about halfway through with huge drop-offs. The south end is the gnarliest;it's just a trough full of giant boulders. It has to be a fun challenge for the rock-crawling rigs with big tires and tons of clearance. Do not attempt this with a stock vehicle or anything under 37-inch tires. This is really meant for the serious rock-crawling buggies and skilled drivers.
