Trail Overview

This is a fun and quick trail with great views, perfect for a relaxing trail ride. The northern half of this trail brings you up onto a fin with spectacular views of both the Sycamore area and the 4 Peaks Wilderness, giving it its name. There are several steep climbs/descents on this half of the trail, which eventually bring you back down into the washes on the southern side after a tight switchback. Once in the washes, the trail can get relatively tight with the overgrowth. Once through that, it opens up into the greater Sycamore Creek area, with roughly 110 miles of trails to explore.

Difficulty

Coming from the north side, there is a relatively steep incline with an optional rutted out off-camber line. There are a couple of washed-out areas on the trail that will need to be crossed. The trail can get very tight; not recommended for anything longer than a 4-door Jeep.

Definitely expect some intense pinstriping. Brought a small saw, was definitely utilized. Three portions needed some walkthroughs, might be tougher with a longer wheelbase. My 2 door sport performed well, had to move some larger rocks due to ground clearance. Would rate a 4 due to these obstacles.

In some ways the road to the start of the trail was more challenging than the trail. I used 4L at times, mostly just to have better control of speed, but never needed to lock either axle. There was a bit of desert pin-striping involved as the creosote bushes have grown into the trail a bit

Trail so washed away in some spots, able to navigate but sometimes a little hard

I entered from the south via Bush Highway. It was hard to find the trail for the first three miles due to overgrown vegetation due to the recent rains, so expect pinstriping. About 3 miles in there is a sharp upwards turn that has been rutted out due to the recent weather. I was able to overcome it with a levelled truck on 31s, so nothing too difficult for a proper rig, but I wouldn't take a RAV4 up here. Absolutely beautiful views once you get past the wash.
