Trail Overview

State Tank Road #213 is a relatively well-maintained dirt trail that winds through the scenic desert grasslands of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. Along the route, you'll cross two shallow washes, generally passable under dry conditions. A highlight of the trail is a large manmade watering hole used by local wildlife, including deer, javelina, and a variety of bird species--so be sure to drive slowly and remain alert for animal crossings. The trail also features several spur and connector roads, one of which leads to a dispersed camping area perfect for an overnight stay. The open landscape, dotted with mesquite and occasional cottonwoods, offers sweeping views and a chance to enjoy the solitude of the refuge.

This is a well-maintained trail with several spurs to explore, and it has connector roads that are well-maintained. There are two washes that may be difficult to traverse in the rainy season.
